I just recently purchased the book called "The Explosive Child" and it talks alot about a condition called ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). Has anyone else ever heard of this?? Have any of you had an experience dealing with a child or anyone else with this?? Please give me all the input you can. I am very interested in ANYTHING you have to say about it. Thanks Guys!!!

I have a friend whos has a son who has this dx he is 6. They have a lot of issues with him. These kids are usually very defiant, they will do things like be mean to animals, start fires, skip school, be deliquant, have the police called on them etc... I know my friend as had a lot of problems with her son.. for instance he was getting up at night and peeing the the corner of the bedroom, he knew better, but said he didnt want to go to the bathroom so he just did it there. I would google it or look up the DMV criteria on it to get more info.

Yes, been hearing about it right beside the rise of autism rates...This is NOT bad parenting as the general public would like to think..sigh. I would recomend reading Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders by Kenneth Bock and Cameron Stauth (Paperback - April 29, 2008) While this is not a book just aimed at ODD but in that spectrum.. taking a look at the biology behind the rise is rates of childhood disorders and how to help your child.I am nearly 50, I can tell you, over the years working with childern..I have personally seen childern with behavior disorders that used to not be there..and new Dx's left and right..When I first heard of ODD it was 1996..I was like WHAT??? super ADHD..sadly I have seen many cases in the last few years...I am one who belives there is a genetic loaded gun, and something in the environmant pulls the trigger....just my 2 cents MM

you should read this page. its very informative... this is an enviornmental disorder in that it is cause by a disrpueted life... well its all explained on the page which includes resources!

I have written you long extensive replies 3x but they will not load... I am frustrated to no end. Are we not permitted to write websites into the blogs? Am sick of rewriting the same things over and over. Can I email you my suggestions off this blog or what? I don't know what I am doing wrong, but would like to help you.WendyCannot stay up any later to write it a 4th time tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
