Today I am confused. Hopeful by the eye contact that I am getting from my son and the interaction he is having with other children. I am discouraged by him losing his words. He only has said mom, down, dada, and gaum (for grandmom), but doesn't seem to want to use them. I just want to hear what my sweet little one is thinking!

It is so hard to watch our children lose speech. We went through that around the same age with my now 13 year old son....I hope that you are working with a speech and language pathologist. She should be able to give you games, activities and exercises to encourage language. Also, providing your son with some visuals to use would be a great idea too. I'm hearing more and more about how important it is that we give these kids an outlet for communication---whatever it is....big hug to you and hang in there....(Hey, now that I'm thinking of it, we have several speech pathologists here as members. If you post a more specific question about speech in the Forum section, perhaps it will be seen by others who can give more help and advice)

So many parents I have worked with over the years have expressed exactly what you are saying. Here's hope - with early intervention (I sincerely hope your little guy is enrolled in an early intervention program) the words will come back and many more besides! If he is making eye contact with you AND showing interaction with other children, then progress is already taking place :-)If I can assist you in any way, please feel free to email me.Hang in there - some days are harder than others, but remember, you have support on here!Karen
