Okay! This is the third time I'll have tried to respond... Let's see if this one will post. "Riding Therapy" seems to be great for some kids. It's on the same general principle as therapy dogs, but involves the challenge of getting on and riding a huge animal. The theory is that kids who learn the less complicated interactions with an animal and overcome their fears with the animal are more able to interact with people, with less stress. Around here, it's incredibly expensive, and our insurance won't cover it, so we've never tried it, but once our church's youth group visited a riding therapy (aka "hippotherapy!") place and Daniel did ride a horse. He loved it. If there's a chance of a free lesson, take it, see what you think. Sometimes, there's some screaming from the kids as they approach the horse, but the people who run those places tend to be really mellow about that and frequently enjoy the challenge of gradually calming the child so therapy can progress.

I took my son for about a year and a half but we had a bad experience with the workers there.I think it was good for most of the kids but for my son it worked just the opposite. For most kids deep pressure calms them. However some kids have the opposite reaction. Garrett my son was of course the one that it had the opposite reaction it just hyped him up more and he had a very hard time with both of the therapist that he had. One of them actually spanked his hand several times. Then of course I took him out of there. Because nothing was being done about it and then after I left they fired her but not until they were afraid that I was going to turn them in over it. But if you have a good place to take your child I would greatly recommend it because for most kids it works very well. I still haven't ruled out taking Garrett back eventually. If you have any questions about anything in particular please email me at garykaelin@yahoo.com I would be glad to answer any questions that you may have.
