The first time I was told something was wrong my middle son was 2 1/2. We went to a Communications Disorder Unit for some clarification on what was going on and when the woman came out she said "Mrs. Phillips your son will NEVER speak, he's as good as he'll get so you should consider institutionalization since you have two other little ones at home to deal with" That was in 1994. Imagine if I had listened to THAT?!?! But I went to the school district who said "we can help" and Brian began Early Intervention. At the same time he was evaluated they noticed that our son Stephan needed help as well. And soon I had one child on the bus going into town and the other going to the next city over to start their journey into Early Intervention. Brian is now a Freshman in High School. He is learning how to drive, has his permit. NEVER stops talking...and it amazes me that someone was willing to give up on him at the age of 2. So my only thing I can say to parents it that it works. It worked for us, twice over. That I don't think we'd be where we are today had it not been for the boys...and the faith in Early Intervention.

I too think Early Intervention is key. I do not think my son would be doing as well as he is if he hadn't started early intervention at one year old. They told me mine may never walk so he proved them wrong, I love when he proves people wrong, LOL.
