Having trouble communicating with your childs team?

One of the hardest things I found was getting effective communication with the entire team for my son.  We passed a notebook back and forth to write notes, but it sometimes didn't get to the speech therapist or one of the other team members.  For this reason we developed www.iabida.com - a free web application where all team members are listed and where communication is centralized.  You can post text journals, video journals, audio journals and also track your childs medication and more.  Let me know if you use it and feedback.  Thanks!

Re: Having trouble communicating with your childs team?

I was able to open the link the other day and it looks really interesting.
The main problem I see is accessibility to a computer for some of my son's team. He receives a ton of services at his special needs school. And this year, I'm having difficulty communicating with his PT and OT on a regular basis. Granted, these are not our focus this year - but is still very important. But they do not have regular access to a computer in their "office" and frequently check in while at home. It's almost easier to use email. What do you see as the benefit over email communication with the team?
I want to play with it a little more...cool.

Re: Having trouble communicating with your childs team?

Hi Cathy,

A very delayed response to your posting.  The biggest advantage to a centralized web site for communication management, is that everything stays in this one spot.  You can have documents, journals, behavior tracking, med tracking etc all in one place.  With emails, it isn't really stored well and doesn't have a good mechanism for long-term data tracking.  It is the same reason social sites like foggyrock are so helpful.  Everyone is in a centralized location and it makes communication easier and better.

Re: Having trouble communicating with your childs team?

Just curious....if this is documented in you son's IEP as well. One thing I have ran accross in the past...is getting the whole team to cooperate as well. Luckily things are going better now.

Re: Having trouble communicating with your childs team?

Is this forum just for discussing IEPs or can we write about general challenges with the Department of Education?

Thanks,
Eileen

Re: Having trouble communicating with your childs team?

Eileen, you could start that topic under the Forums "Education options and issues", I think would be a good place. This topic is more about team communication.
