I just received something from Great Plains about low lithium levels in some of our children. Ironically, I just got back lab work indicating my sons lithium levels at bottom of the barrel low. They indicated a correlation to bottled water and other things. Has anyone else done, read or know anything further about this?? My son tends to have agressive spells and I do know that lithium is a mood stabilizer. They said that you can add a few drops to water daily and they have seen some nice results. Thanks ahead of time...

I had my son lithum for over a year with some very good results. I had to take him due to side effects that are uncommon from what I learned. It did help stablize him some. I did have to do blood work about every 6 weeks. And because it's a salt it made Chad really thirsty - we were able to introduce water to him and he drank it easlily. The worst thing with Chad on lithium was the bed wetting. He was wetting the bed just about everynight. Drove me crazy...I would even wake him up once in the middlw of the night to use the restroom but he would still pee in the bed. good luck to you

Lithium is tolerated well by some people, not at all well by others. Usually, it's prescribed for bipolar disorder, but I guess there are other uses, too. Also, I know several people who have kids on the spectrum who are also diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It might be worth a try, check with your doc. Good luck!

The lithium most ASD patients use is a MUCH lower dose than what is used for bipolar. ASD patient usually use Lithium in a supplement (over-the-counter) strength. I know
families who are using the New Beginnings liquid Lithium with very good results. This low dose doesn't require blood work.
