Sick Siblings...Health issues and more

Hi-
As I get acquainted with new members here I Foggyrock, I am beginning to recognize a pattern with the siblings of our children on the spectrum.  It seems that so many of our "typical" children also have health issues and/or behavioral issues in common.  For example, my typical daughter has gut imflammation that the GI specialist said was worse than her brother's.  She has allergies and asthma as well....On the other hand, she is brilliantly creative with writing and drawing, crafts and inventions---which I am learning is also a trait of our typical kids.  What about your kids?  What other issues do you face with your typical children?

Re: Sick Siblings...Health issues and more

My girls and I are all allergic to gluten.  My youngest has eczema and asthma.   All the kids are very creative, I almost never have to "entertain" them.  They don't require television to have a good time, although we all like to watch a movie sometimes.  They write, (those that know how) draw, and write movies.  Last weekend, they enacted their own version of "Anne of Green Gables," using Daniel as Matthew.  My younger daughter decided to learn to play recorder, and using a book, learned the basics in two days.  She and my older daughter were playing in harmony together yesterday morning.

Re: Sick Siblings...Health issues and more

My youngest, a girl and NT - and three years old,
She is so incredibly verbal - and creative and expressive with her language - it is just amazing to me after many years of silence with her brother.
She also has "the worst case of KP" according to severl Pediatricaans - KP is Keratosis Pilaris a clogging of the hair folical that leads to red bumps that almost look like pimples. She is the worst eater - not always the case. She had seasonal allergies at 4 months of age and ASTHMA - ugh. Her tummy seems to be ok (from the look of the output) but she has been on probiotcis since her first round of antibiotics. Her stomash is always distended - so I'm trying to move her away little by little from milk/gluten. Once we get settled with her brother - we will run an allergy/sensitivities panel on her.
She is creative, loving, stong willed (grr...), but sometimes I worry about depression in this one.... I need to have something to worry about.

Re: Sick Siblings...Health issues and more

My NT daughter  complains about her stomach.  That fact a dime is smaller than a nickel but worth more bothers her. She says it isn't logical.  It bothers her so much that she has to really concentrate when paying for something.  That is just one of her quirks.  She is a high achiever; she is finishing her junior year in College and just turned 18 year old.  She is also very social.

My NT son had stomach issues.  When he was younger it was an ongoing problem.  He was scoped by Dr. Krigsman (upper only) and everything was healthy.  Dr. Krigsman said to give him a fiber supplement.  We did and now he is fine.

Wow---so interesting. I wonder is someone is conducting research on typical siblings?  I worry that we are raising a generation of children (the siblings) who will be more susceptible to giving birth to children with autism or other disabilities because we are not addressing their immune systems correctly in childhood.

Re: Sick Siblings...Health issues and more

Hi, everyone.  I just read all of these posts for the first time...I'm not sure how I missed them before.  These threads of similarities in the siblings are fascinating.  Our second child is also wonderfully creative, very verbal, and intensely artistic.  She has been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, enuresis and has asthma.  Our youngest is only 3 and has allergies and asthma and is highly imaginative--she'll play with her dolls and toy animals for hours--and loves to dance.  All of our kids are such a mix of my husband and myself!
