toss aside the term special
gifted differently should replace it because
thats what we are
sarcastic people tell someone they are special
they mean retarded
same meaning
hurtful either way
differently gifted is easier to hear
feelings are easily hurt for desperate kids
isolated in an awful state of fear
great denial is tested often viciously
you stay in a state of hunger for normalcy
you panic hidden away in your mind
help seems just plain repressed in the way that we need
i am sad that i never had a chance to be a great
bicyclist or ballplayer like my sister
hope to drive one day
just hope to stay focused enough
food for thought

Gifted differently is a wonderful, and positive term...and I will try to use it more often. It will help me focus on the assets that everyone brings to the table. And you, Seth, bring a truth and a perspective that speaks respectfully for all of our children.

Gifted is exactly what you are Seth you impress me more every time I read anything that you write! I appreciate you so much because we need your input as parents especially those of us who's children are not able to communicate through words as well as you are.
