I need someone to hold my hand as I reintroduce SCD.....
Hi-
I think that I am going to reintroduce SCD this week and am looking for folks out there who have done it successfully to help me along the way...We did it for about 8 weeks almost 2 years ago...and we happened to have HUGE behavior issues part way through it. It happened in the middle of several other changes (including a GI scope and med. change) so it is hard to know, but I do know that my son needs something to help with behaviors that appear to be gut related....Anyone out there want to hold my hand?

Well shannon I don't know how well I will be on helping but I'll try I've been SCD since 10/22/07 Jared's been seeing a DAN DR. in Portland, ME. Named Dr.Shotz. So if you need something I'll try to be there for you. The intro diet is rough but do it one day at a time and don't think to far ahead cause it makes it a long 4 to 5 days I did Jareds for 4 in ahalf then I was all done. Tab

Okay folks---give me a couple of days to gather my nerves--and I may soon have a slew of questions. I did just do a phone consult with an SCD consultant from pecanbread.com that was very helpful....I'm going to have to clean my fridge and pantry out if this is going to work....

I am new --what is SCD diet-i have heard of the other diets and not this one. we have not tried any of these with our son but are looking to make some changes--can someone explain--thanks?--Lauren

Hi-
you can learn more about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet on www.pecanbread.com.
Basically, this diet is for kids with gut issues--from diarrhea, to constipation, to dysbiosis, to malabsorption--to bacterial/fungal inbalances.....It eliminates the carbs that are not easily digested in order to help heal the gut and get things back in balance. The thing I like about this diet is that, done right, over time, you can add much of the food back...once the gut is healed. It may takes several years before that occurs, but it is not so restrictive indefinitely.
