I do this befor every IEP meeting and when my son has had an evulation because as you all know it the reports can be overwelming. I had one report that was 24 pages long onece. I also request the adgenda befor the meeting too. Put this in writing such as EX: I am requesting Jonny's Phy eval results 10 days befor the IEP so I will have have a chance to review al the materials. Also another tip I wish I had just rebembered today when I went to the dentist. I should have got all the paerwork ahead of time he was a new patient there and he seems to just hate going into dr'.s offices and waiting.Hope this helps!

It's a lot easier to process and understand the paperwork when you're not trying to understand what the discussion is about at the same time.

Thanks AdifferentDrummer that is good! I so hate that they say they have to add MR Mentally Retarted in my son's file I wish that could be take off . It makes so many people look at him diffrently then as if it was just Autism. I have asked but they won't
Disagree with a report?

You also have the right to have a report withdrawn from your child's file if you disagree with it. I did this once, with a report that stated that Corvus' problems were all the result of bad parenting and that I did not understand how to correct my child. The recommendation were leave him in time out until he stops crying (would have been hours), he screams when you shampoo his head - just pour water over his head and he will get over it, when you frighten him with a loud noise - do not appologize because it makes him think that loud noises are errors and life will always present him with them, etc - you get the picture. Anyway, I felt the report was unfair to both Corvus and myself - also, I did not want ANYONE following the recommendations - so I requested in writing my desire for it to be withdrawn from the file and given to me for disposal. Our school system is notorious for waiting till the last minute to distribute reports etc. If, you can get them to give them to you before had than I agree much better than being overwhelmed in the situation. One time I actually traded. I will give you my private eval when I see your evals. :) That did not make them happy but, I thought that was fair. They told me that was not fair. And, I gave them the same answer it is still being processed. And, I bet it will be done processing the same time theirs is. I really always try to cooperate & be nice first. It should be a two way street
get that paperwork beforehand!!

yes you have the right to get copies of everything before the meeting, and it is not supposed to be the final copy without your approval. You take the draft copy, look it over, and make all the corrections that you want made right on the draft copy. When y ou get to the mtg, you already know what you want to change and what you want to say. You also have the right to have an advocate with you from the school board. ( trust me thats what I do) and a member of the special education dept can help you through what you need and what to say.
Oh forgot!

This is your right as a parent to have all reports and the agenda befor an IEP meeting . Also if they give you a rough draft make sure when the IEP meeting is finished you get the finial copy. You can aslo requests their idea of Goals befor the meeting too.
