paperwork paper trail

Not only would I suggest that you gather the paperwork prior to the IEP meeting, you may want to do a couple of other things. If you are new to the IEP process, ask your case manager how many days before you want to receive the paperwork you will need to submit your request - verbal, written or both. After the IEP meeting, you should receive copies of minutes/notes of anything discussed during the meeting, preferably right at the end of the meeting so it remains fresh in your mind. Take a few moments to review the minutes/notes when you get home - and can actually think and breath, and check to see if what you perceive was discussed/concluded, matched what is in the minutes. If it is in accordance, you may want to drop off a note thanking the team, and reiterating an important point or two to highlight your main focus/concern. If there is something you do not understand, request another meeting to clarify any confusion or misunderstanding. if there is something that is happening upon which you disagree, ask the case manager, or head of the team to submit to you in writing, why they hold a belief, or deny a request. This is time consuming, but it is a good way to keep communication alive, ensure that you are considered a valuable part of the team - as you should be - , and you can maintain a good handle on what is happening to your child and why. Does this make sense?

After each IEP I electronically scan all docs into an adobe PDF format. That way I can send it in a jiff to anobody needing it. I have done that so many times. Including sending it to therapist that never seem to get the paperwork to ABA vendor's etc. Very handy & I post it in MicroSofts healthvault so I always have it available even when out of town etc. Hope my comment helped happy IEP'in
