So many books, So little time

01-23-08
Did I mention I love to read? Excited to be part of this Book Club!!! I don't even know where to start-how about the book I'm currently reading. PLEASE STOP LAUGHING AT ME by Jodee Blanco-about a girl who was taunted all thru school because she was different and the effect it had on her once she was grown.

I would like to recommend a great novel for those of you who need a break from research and would like to dive right into somebody elses life.

The End of Ignorance

01-24-08
Writen by a mathmatician turn playwrite turned special ed. specialist. Even though this man has his Phd the book is highly readable. Which is part of his book - learning is something we can all do but that we do not teach as though we can all learn. The book takes a cultural look at the school system. The author is the founder of the JUMP program for math education. I have always stuggles to get into the education systems mind-but I never get it. I was once told me ecpectations were to high!! This book helps me to articulate my teaching style to my son. Empowering and educational

Sick Girl

Shannon - sick girl sounds interesting. EAT PRAY LOVE was fun. I got through India ok but Bali was a little hard for me...she fell in love - quell surprise...! But it was a nice ending. I guess I shouldn't hold anything against nice endings. She worked really hard to come through her hell. Maybe we'll get to write our books - and they'll have happy endings.

Tell me about it!

I have read several books and bought a few. I have started going to the library to get books. I take classes right now online, which require some on campus time. Plus the three kids. Time is something i don't have much of. I try to read as much as i can but while classes are going on it is limited.

books to finish...

01-23-08
I really liked Pray, Eat, Love--especially Italy, but then I just got bogged down halfway through India. Let me know how it ends because I finally just took it back to the Library.....

I just finished reading a fantastic book called Sick Girl by Amy Silverstein. She wrote about receiving a heart transplant at age 27, and the whole medical system and how you are treated when you are sick---with a wit and insight that I could really relate too--having taken my son to so many doctors --and having lost respect for so many aspects of traditional medicine practices...Highly recommended when you want to think about someone's elses suffering and not your own :)

Books and Research

01-23-08
I keep coming across that book LOOK ME IN THE EYE and I want to read it but then I end up coming across another book that interest me. Probably within the last year I have bought over 100 books and no telling how many hours of research. My husband picks on me and says that Barnes and Noble called wanting to buy some books back! lol

Cool sounding book

I too have so little time to read. I get the kids to bed and try to catch up on email and work and biomed research and then it's midnight and I'm still recovering for all those years when the kids didn't sleep.
I'm going to try the LOOK ME IN THE EYE book next. I still have about 100 pages of EAT, PRAY, LOVE. I like it
