October Autism Events in NC

09-30-08
One of the greatest things about our country is our ability as common citizens to affect change. As the parent or loved one of a child with autism, you know all too well that our community has a long list of items that need to be changed with regard to public policy both at our state level and within the Federal Government.

We need you to get involved and help us make these opportunities for change a reality!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1. VOLUNTEER! We have two huge events on the calendar for the month of October in North Carolina and we need your help to man these booths/tables! We will be collecting signatures for petitions for Federal legislation for the Disability Savings Act introduced last spring by Senator Chris Dodd. At this point, neither of our fine Senators from the state of North Carolina have agreed to co-sponsor this legislation for your child's future. That needs to change!

October Events:

Oct. 4th - The 6th Annual Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism Carolinas Walk at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord from 8:00 am - Noon

Oct. 11th - The 10th Annual ASNC Autism Ribbon Run at Moore Square in Raleigh from 9:00 am to Noon
2. SIGN UP! Even if you are planning on attending one of these events, we enourage you to sign up at www.autismvotes.org to receive the most up to date information on advocacy efforts both in our state and with regard to the Federal agenda as well. Next year will be an extremely busy year on the advocacy front as a new administration moves into town. BE THE FIRST to know what is happening in DC and in your neck of the woods!

3. GRAB A FRIEND! If anyone ever has said, "I wish there was something we could do to help you!" with regard to your child's diagnosis, now there is a cost effective way for them to get involved and help. Autism Advocacy is not reserved for the parents of children with autism alone. Pass this email along to your extended family - grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and neighbors, co-workers, teachers and therapists and ask them to sign up at www.autismvotes.org to be a catalyst for change for your child!

If you are specifically interested in serving as a House District Captain in the state of North Carolina, or if you would like to be a volunteer at one of the Autism Votes booths at the events above, please email me separately at NorthCarolinaCAC@autismspeaks.org.

With great thanks!
