Need a good reccomendation

02-12-08
Going away next week and I need a good NON AUTISM book. I can't even think of one. I just finished EAT PRAY LOVE and have LET ME SEE YOUR EYES waiting for me - but not interested in that for vacation. It has to be something I can put down easily. I'm sure someone here has heard of something worth getting - I have an amazon.com gift card burning a hole in my pocket....
Thanks!!!!

BTW - thanks for all the great book recc. Funny thing (sad thing-depending how you look at it) I never had a chance to get a book before leaving. And I never had time to read while on Vacation. So now I'm going to get a couple of good books to have waiting for me at the end of the day. Thanks to everyone. Cathy

vacation book ideas

I read Marley and me too what an excellent story!
I love Stephen King, and one of his best books which is more gothic style is Bag of Bones. It' isn't too long of a story either like some of his books.
I just started reading his brand new book Duma Key and it is terrific so far.
His other great book, especially if you like the red sox is The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
(not all his books are horror)
And unless you like horror or vampire stories I don't really have any other reccomendations at the moment!

Two more favorite books

Hi-
Just a couple more books for your vacation. Both are written by Ruth Reichl. She is/was the food critic for the New York Times. In her book, Garlic and Sapphires: the secret life of a critic in disguise, she tells wonderful stories of dressing up in disguises to visit the most posh restaurants in New York so that she isn't recognized. She dressed as an old woman, a sexy woman, her mother etc....and describes how she is treated as her different personalities.

Her other book, Tender at the Bone, starts at her childhood and chronicles her exposures and adventures with food that gave her the experience to become a food critic....from her mother's table, to the Canadian Ambassador's table (the parent of a childhood friend), to the co-op in Berkeley and vineyards in France....really fun.

Enjoy your trip and your books!

Okay--I love to read--it is an addiction. Here are some of my all-time favorites:
1) Marley and Me--oh my gosh, you will not be able to put it down....
2) Just finished a touching book (read in 2 days) called The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan
3) Glass Castle by Jeannette ?--So well written and couldn't put it down.
4) Angela's Ashes
5) Finding Peggy by Margaret Henderson (especially if you liked Angela's Ashes)
6) Sick Girl---story of 27 year old heart transplant patient--funny, touching, thought-provoking
These are all non-fiction....and really well-written literature...
Good luck!
