Dean Koontz - LIGHT OF THE MOON

04-02-08
A few years ago, I was introduced to Dean Koontz and although his genre is somewhat suspense, mystery and a tiny bit of horror at times, I find that he really treats his characters with special needs as equals. He doesn't glorify them and he doesn't pity them...they are characters with various challenges and gifts.

LIGHT OF THE MOON is worth the read as one of the 3 main characters has autism. I don't want to spoil anything, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all three characters develop and thought that Koontz development of the character with autism was done with understanding and respect. If you have time to read it, I definitely recommend it. I wrote to Mr. Koontz about how much I respect his usage and development of characters with special needs, especially autism as well as mentioning various local places in his books (he lives locally here in Orange County, CA). He wrote me back a personal note which was so nice since he rarely responds personally due to high incoming mail.

Anyway, if anyone has read this or gets a chance, let me know what you think!
