What is the strangest thing your child ever "made" into a letter?

Both my suspected HFA boys are hyperlexic as well, and so much of what has already been mentioned is SO right on with what they do. Mitchell, who's 4, stims by writing letters in the air, and he's ALWAYS been drawn to the credits on any TV show. He will use ANYTHING handy to make letters and numbers.
Owen, who's almost 3, doesn't usually make letters or numbers out of things, LOVES to write letters, numbers, and words on his Magnadoodle or on our chalkboard outside. (We took a piece of plywood, painted it with chalkboard paint, and attached it to our picket fence). He is always after DH or I to write words for him to read on the Magnadoodle, too. He's actually AHEAD of where the 4 year old is with reading...LOL.

Yes! I remember how shocking it was. It is like they are born readinig. Jonathan used to cry as a baby (like 15 months old) when I would shut the video tape off while the credits were running. I really think he was decoding even then. I used this to teach him to answer questions. Does your son repeat questions when you ask? I would write down the answer on an index card. Ask the question, and then hold the card up quickly and he would read the answer. It was as if a light went off in his head! We moved from "How are you" "Fine" to "Now it is your turn Mommy" while playing a game. I also remember the grocery store being out of Yumsters once, and I bought Trix yogurt once. At least 6 months later, I bought a box of Trix cereal, and he looked at the box...looked at me with his head tilted and the most quizzical look and said "Yogurt???" I can still picture it!

Name, address and phone

Since my ds is so good I reading and putting it to memory I have decided to work on his name, address and phone. Yet again he has blown us away. He just picked it up and started reading it. Also I was reading a book and he read the title. People in general still do not believe me when I tell them he can read. You have to witness it for yourself. He sounds words out they are not sight words. They become sight words after the fact. It is truly an amazing gift.

Yes to all the above, LOL.Yesterday he had a dandilion, had blown all the seeds off and was using the stem to make a seven. He walked up to some lady and said Seven, of course they had no clue what he was talking about. Have you read Born on a Blue Day. The author has Asperger's (and I suspect hyperlexia) and savant syndrome. He describes his facination with numbers and letters and how he sees everything as a number. It was a very good book.

When other children were coloring with crayons...my son would use the crayons to "build" letters or words.
He would "see" letters in the bark of a tree or the way a branch laid on the ground.
The "P" shaped chewie thing the OT gave him could be many things...a P, b, d, g, 6, 9...
Oh...and the grocery store! The aisles. We had to go down each and every aisle with him shouting "1..1...next 2..2..2...next 3!!" Lord have mercy if I forgot something on aisle 2 when I was on aisle 10....I'd have to do it all over again!
But the funniest was the day that he got off the potty, pointed in it and said "J". And, yes...his poop was indeed in the shape of a J.
