Okay so I have not been to a training, I cant afford to go not to mention they have none in my area. I do have the books and I have been reading them. My question is what is the best way to get started... should i just go through and try to do all the assesments? Should i try to get others on board (have been doing this with out much luck) any ideas would be great!

I am really looking forward to learning more about SCERTS from you all. I did read Shannon's post about it beginning with the social/communication aspects and that is what is drawing me in...

Is there a recommended "first step" in terms of a book or website that you would recommend?

Kaua`i is rural and we would need to fly to Honolulu for any training -- if they even have them there. I don't know of anyone here who has looked into it.

From what I know, it is very hard to start this with out others on board...for one you need 2 or 3 people to do the assessments...then you need to come together and set up your plan for success...you may want to ask your school district if they can have a training for staff...this is important with any program...what happens at home...must be followed through at school...everyone seems to think it is the other way around....WRONG!
These programs are very expensive and if the school is not on board with you...then it is basically waisted money...and a lot of frustration for you and your child...I have the books and they are not easy to understand...

Yeah i know there are several people on foggyrock that use it including shannon... Jan also uses it.. Hopefullly they will join as soon as they see my post!

Do you know anyone who is using this method ? I hope you get more people to join so we can all lean. I will start researing some this week and post back when I have more info. Best wishes for this group. Thanks for stating it!
