Diagnosis

I know that the majority of people with Autism have only Autism. That is difficult but when you have numerous problems on top of Autism it is extremely difficult. Especially trying to figure out what is the cause of what. My ds had a reaction to his first vaccine but we did not put two and two together until he was almost 3. He had developmental delay from the beginning. At one year he was thought to have Hydrocephalus and PVL. Which later was changed to no PVL and External Hydrocephalus with Macrocephaly. Then is was Mild CP, demyelination, sensory integration disorder, dyarthria, dysphagia. A genetic disorder was suspected as well. So we have undergone extensive tests. Now Angelman's syndrome is suspected. We had to fight tooth and nail to see a dev. ped and psych who finally diagnosed with Autism, hyperlexia and Apraxia. The list goes on. It is really frustrating trying to figure out what is causing what and I feel the main stream doctors have Dropped the ball completely. Thankfully having the Autism diagnosis lead me to see a DAN! who is looking at my son as a whole and not just one thing!!! Doesn't make it any easier but it helps to know someone is out there that can shed some light on your childs issues and possibly make his life a little better in the process.
