Cookware

What are your thoughts on silcone bakeware. When I was diagnosed with MS back in '95 I threw out all of my nonstick and alumium cookware and replaced it with cast iron, glass and stainless steel. Lately I have been hearing that stainless steel is bad too. Now silcone bakeware is all the rave and I worry that it will leach into foods. It is said that it is safe but I am still skeptical. What do you all think??

storage containers

where did you find glass storage containers? I will do more research on the stainless and get back to you. The cast iron is a pain but they will last forever if you care for them. Before first use you season it by oiling it well and heating in the oven. After you wash them heat them on the stove or oven to dry completely to prevent rust, then add a little olive oil and wipe out with a towel.

I just started replacing my storage containers (including school lunch stuff) from plastic to glass. I line some of the plastic stuff that I can't find good replacements for with parchment paper.
I wouldn't trust the silicone - remember breast implants??? Next it will be pots and pans.
So now stainless is bad? why? Is it only the ones with the aluminum core or all stainless??? Ugh.
I find cast iron hard to care for - any tips?

Cast iron

The good thing about cast iron is it heats evenly and you do get some iron in your food. The bad thing is how heavy they are, ugh. I really like my glass/corning wear pots. The stainless is frustrating because things tend to stick. Yes it can get expensive but it is worth it. You could try just replacing one item a month.

Better safe than sorry. I haven't started replacing my skillets yet. So I need cast iron? Is that expensive?

They say that the silcone is bad, and has been since I was a little girl...I too have glass, stainless steel and cast iron...I still have one of the others, but it is for the doggie left overs.
