Where do I start??

05-01-08
Okay, I am a little scared of all the biomedical terms and I don't know where to start. I feel like it is the right place for me to go for help for my son but don't know what to read to gain some basic jump off knowledge of it all?? Please help! I don't think I can afford a DAN doctor! Thanks Melissa

I ordered one of the books and I am going to get the other one next week. Have to spread them out so I'm not spending too much money...lol. Thanks a lot for the advice.

good question

I saw this post a couple of days ago but I seriously could not think of good advice. I think reading the mentioned books is good b/c then you can see if you recognize your child in any of it. The autism.com website also had DAN webcasts that have a lot of information in them. I do a lot on my own and then take very specific questions, test results, etc. to my DAN. He is great and expects parents to do a lot of work on their own b/c every kid is so different. Kudos to the idea for the books!

Dr, Bock's book

I like Dr. Bock's book also. I figure I'm a little biased on that one since he is one of our DAN docs.

DAN! guide book

I really like Healing the New Childhood Epidemics by Dr. Kenneth Bock. He goes into great detail about the entire DAN! treatment, the diets, the tests, the supps, medications. I use it a reference frequently. I got mine at Barnes and Nobel.

Initially I used these books as a guide: Children with Starving Brains and Autism: Effective Biomedical Treatments. Both are avaiable from ARI
http://www.autism.com
Buying Children with Starving Brains from Dr. McCandless' site gives you access to her internet list. Follow your instinct. Dans come in all shapes and sizes and prices now. A good starting point is dietary interventions.

Hi,
you may want to check out the natural healing of the GUT group...I could not afford the DAN protocols so I found all the natural alternatives...these are safest for our children...affordable...and with none or very little side effects...
