GF/CF??

Are these helpful to remove from the diet because autistic children are more likely allergic to them or because it effects them differently?

getting tested

I agree with so many of you these diets are hard. Sometimes it feels like what can I feed my kid? The oxalate diet I know would totally benfit my son but he loves so much stuff that you should not eat on this diet. You really benfit from having your child tested. This way you know what to do with your child. All our kids are so diffrent. My son can't have Dairy but wheat is o.k. for him. I am happy I did get him tested. He use to have 5-6 Bm a day. Getting rid of Dairy he goes regular now YEA!!

The gluten and casein aren't digested properly and are absorbed as a "whole" through a leaky gut. After being absorbed they act as opiates leading to being in a fog or picking at their skin to give some examples SCD was great for Michael. It allowed his gut to heal (along with Dr. Krigsman treatment). He is now back to GF/CF with other limited carbs. I have friends with kids doing great on the low oxalate diet.

I think there is a lot of 'controversy' around what the actual problem is with the Gluten/Caesin in the body. I didn't realize it until I joined another group - always good to see another side. But our kids are so sensitive and there does seem to be an overwhelming proportion of ASD kids that have a G/C sensitivity. Our DAN did not recommend allergy testing - at least at first. He rec removing gluten and caesin and see what happens. I haven't removed it all. I call myself a dietary wimp...but we have seen some tremendous gains. Enough that I'm pullig all gluten from his diet.

My two asd kids are both GF. Milk doesn't seem to affect them. Taking the gluten away was huge for both of them. For my daughter especially. We took her off recently and her communication and speech soared! I cannot believe the conversations she can now have and her stimming is nearly gone. I think she would blend with any NT kids her age now.

It can be a true allergy to Wheat and Dairy or just a sensitivity.

from what I understand the dairy and the gluten change chemically in the childrens systems...they change into some type of opiate...so they are always high and when they come out of it is when we see more problem behaviors...also the dairy because of the way it is processed cause yeast to grow in the intestinal track causeing havoc...the wheat is very hard to digest...the gluten is actually what glue is made of...you will most definitly want to give him a digestive enzyme...I have posted in healing the GUT naturally group alot of info on the GUT and the Digestive track.

GF/CF

Yes, removing GF/CF is a good start. You should really read the books that the others told you about theres also a book called breaking the vicious cycle which is good for the SCD diet thats the one I'm on for my son. We have been SCD for almost 7 months. Theres also a site for the SCD diet called Peanbread.com thats helpful. My son had a IGG done a couple of weeks ago and it showed he still has problems with gf/cf dairy was the worst of all even on the diet all this time he still cant handle dairy.
