Repairing myellin

06-05-08
I thought I read somewhere a supplement that would help repair myelin? The sphingolin is to help prevent more damage by mimicking myelin so the body attacks it instead of the real myelin. Which is great in MS but I think my son just has missing myelin not that he lost myelin (at least that is what his neuro thinks). So I need something that will help repair or promote myelin growth. Does that make sense?

go to the natural healing of the GUT group. There you will find info you are looking for...colostrum, spriulina, sphingloin and others...I'll ask the natural path, for more info on natural myelin growth.

In case you didn't see the web conf. next month will be on Autism and brain inflammation. I asked about sphingolin and he said he was going to talk about it next time. So you may want to tune in you register at www.greatplainslaboratory.com and click on free web conf. to sign up.

I hear you. I have the same issue with testing. I'm trying to get the one covered by his insurance first and then move on to the others that I will have to pay myself.

Repairing myellin

I don't rember reading that was the reason for taking Myelin basic protein, but here is what I've gathered:

Myelin Basic Protein
Supports Brain and Central and Central Nerve Myelination healing with basic building blocks needed for functional restoration and gastrointestinal immune desensitization to reduce cellular anti-Myelin T-Cell attack against the myelin sheaths of CNS neurons.

Methylcobalamin (B12) donates methyl groups to the myelin sheath that insulates nerve fibers and regenerates damaged neurons. In a B12 deficiency, toxic fatty acids destroy the myelin sheath but high enough doses of B12 can repair it. This phospholipid, found in high concentrations in the nervous system, helps maintain fluidity of nerve cell membranes, thus providing for optimal transport of nutrients and other compounds across the cell membrane. It is also used in the repair and regeneration of nerve cells.

Choline is an essential nutrient required by the body to make several important compounds necessary for healthy cell membranes. Choline helps form phosphatidylcholine, the primary phospholipid of cell membranes. Choline is also the precursor to acetylcholine, one of the crucial brain chemicals involved in memory. A major use of choline in the body is the formation of betaine, an important methyl donor. Furthermore, choline helps transport of lipids from the liver. Inositol is a direct precursor of phospholipids which are a major component of cellular membranes.

Inositol helps to maintain proper electrical energy and nutrient transfer across the cell membrane. It also acts as a lipotropic which converts fats into other useful products. inositol helps establish healthy cell membranes, which facilitate nerve impulses.
Chlorophyll, the green “blood” of plant life is made by plants through a chemical process called photosynthesis. And amazingly, it essentially has the same effects in the body as iron

Spirulina is the highest source of natural Beta Carotene, Vitamin D and GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid). Spirulina contains all nine essential Amino Acids.

I guess I really need to have the neuroimmunology panel to see if he has the antibodies to MBP or BBB. It is on our list of test but we are doing them as we can afford them.
