Savant/gifted

We saw our psych today for a follow up. He was blown away by my sons skills. He is 3 reading at a second grade level and he also said he tested around six years old for problem solving. We are going to do more extensive testing that he usually does not do until an older age. I said I have thought he is leaning toward being a savant and he said he is but he doesn't like the term savant because idiot is usually linked to it. He prefers the term gifted. I already knew he was a genius but it is nice to here a professional agree with me, lol. My husband and I agree that we were blessed with all the good parts of Autism. Don't get me wrong we have some rough things to deal with but he is such a blessing and lights up everyone (adults) he comes in contact with. I know we are going to have challenges with the school because it is such a drastic difference between his intellect and his "skills". Any tips?? We are not going to be able to have the testing done before his IEP in August should I wait or just call a second IEP after testing is complete. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Sonya
