Library Item Name:

New Study shows no difference in children receiving ABA and eclectic interventions

Summary Statement:

A new research Study shows that there is no difference in outcome for children who recieved intensive ABA and and children who received eclectic interventions even though:
*the children receiving ABA got many more hours (an avg of 33 hours per week for the ABA children vs 26 hours avg for the eclectic group)
* and received more 1 on 1 intervention (all of their hours were 1 on 1 where the eclectic group got on avg 6 hours a week of 1 on 1 intervention)

Regardless of the ABA group starting with an average IQ well within the "high-functioning" range (indeed, the intake IQ here for the ABA group is the same as the follow-up IQ in Lovaas, 1987), after ~2 years of intensive ABA, all children in this group were still receiving ABA services and none was in a mainstream school without 1:1 assistance.
