State lawmakers introduce legislation that would help the growing number of families dealing with autism. Right now private insurers don't have to cover health-related expenses for the autistic. A bi-partisan group of lawmakers have unveiled a new bill that requires health insurance companies to pay for much-needed treatment and therapies for the autistic.
Sen. Tupac Hunter, (D) Detroit: "If treated early, people with this ailment can go on to become productive citizens, but what happens is, because the treatment is so expensive, because insurance companies don't cover it, gone untreated it gets worse and worse and worse."
