The University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities is hitting the road with its new Mobile Family Autism clinic.
The 23-foot van was showcased at the center's recent open house in Davie. The new vehicle provides the ability for the center to reach out to various communities in South Florida to stress the importance of detecting and treating autism.
The clinic on wheels was the brain child of Dr. Michael Alessandri, who has spent 25 years working with those with autism and their families. Alessandri, executive director of the center, got the idea while walking past an American Red Cross blood mobile.
