The symptoms of autistic children who visit Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong will contribute to a national database that some doctors and parents believe could, for the first time, gather enough information to one day solve the mysteries of the complex developmental disorder.
The University of Rochester, which runs Strong and its Golisano pediatric unit, was selected last week as one of 15 sites of the Autism Treatment Network, a string of hospitals and medical centers throughout the United States and Canada that share research. The network formed with five hospitals in 2005 with the aim of creating a standard way to treat the myriad symptoms in children with autism.
