In a short Connecticut Film Festival documentary that screens Sunday at 4 p.m. at Bethel Cinema, an independent filmmaker from California shares the lessons he learned after his son was diagnosed with autism.
"Autistic-Like: Graham's Story" was made by Erik Linthorst and co-written by him and journalist Jody Becker.
"As a parent you are desperate for answers, and I wanted to provide a road map. To say, this is what worked for us," Linthorst said in a telephone interview Monday.
Linthorst said his 3-year-old son was diagnosed as autistic, or autistic-like, or maybe autistic, by medical experts but the recommended therapy was not working.
Graham, now 5, was eventually diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder, rather than autism, and his therapy was not appropriate for sensory disorder.
