Port Barre Elementary accommodates special needs with new space

A sensory room for children with autism at Port Barre Elementary is completed, according to the principal of the kindergarten through fourth-grade school.

Mazie Taylor said the room saw its first occupant Friday.

The St. Landry Parish School Board was ordered in September to provided reasonable space to accommodate the needs of a first-grade student diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome no later than Oct. 3.
