Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., marked World Autism Day Wednesday by calling on Congress to approve his legislation to help other countries combat it.
Smith also lobbied for Congress to pass another of his autism bills, which would boost funding to $350 million a year within the United States.
One in 150 U.S. children has autism, said Smith, whose interest in the developmental disease began after a Brick couple in the late 1990s told him about a possible autism "cluster" in their New Jersey community.
