ADifferentDrummer's Bio

Hi.  My name is Deb Crump.  I have been working with yourng children (12 months to kindergarten age) with Autism Spectrum disorders for 14 years.  I am a Developmental Therapist through CDS (In Maine, this is the agency that supports young children with special needs.  A Developmental Therapist works directly with those children and their families to meet needs they have in any area of development.)  I also run my own business developing PECS, schedules, social stories and other visual supports. (Please visit me at http://www.a-different-drummer.htmlplanet.com/ .) I also enjoy teaching adults whether informally through the time I spend with parents or more formally through college classes and seminars.  My 7-year-old son has an anxiety disorder and we are still struggling to get services for him as his grades remain high.  I look forward to meeting other parents and professionals.

Dear Teacher........

Dear Mrs. G: For four years, Corvus has hated school - he has complained every morning and cried frequently on his return home. This year he says "school is ok" - he has seldom cried and almost never complained about going in the morning. I dont think this is just age and growth. I think that there is a difference in your class - something that makes it tolerable, even "fun" at times. The first time he came home this year and said "this was a good day", I nearly cried. I had begun to doubt that I would hear those words. You have been flexible, supportive, caring and communicative. You have asked about him when he was sick, shared important parts of his school day with me, showed concern about his life and listened when he was having trouble. You have done so much and I thank you for it all, but above all, I thank you for the words, "I had a good day at school."
Deb
