ADifferentDrummer's Bio

Hi.  My name is Deb Crump.  I have been working with yourng children (12 months to kindergarten age) with Autism Spectrum disorders for 14 years.  I am a Developmental Therapist through CDS (In Maine, this is the agency that supports young children with special needs.  A Developmental Therapist works directly with those children and their families to meet needs they have in any area of development.)  I also run my own business developing PECS, schedules, social stories and other visual supports. (Please visit me at http://www.a-different-drummer.htmlplanet.com/ .) I also enjoy teaching adults whether informally through the time I spend with parents or more formally through college classes and seminars.  My 7-year-old son has an anxiety disorder and we are still struggling to get services for him as his grades remain high.  I look forward to meeting other parents and professionals.

Minnesota - Please help
by ADifferentDrummer on 09.16.08 - public - 79 visits

I have a client who is 3, diagnosed with Autism, still nonverbal and needs a very structured program. His family is moving to Minnesota this winter. Can anyone give me some information on who to contact, who does early childhood, what might be some good programs, etc for me to pass on to them? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Deb

Also, Deb, you could tell them to contact the public school system in the town they're moving to. Some school systems run special-needs preschool programs to help reduce the level of need by the time kids get to kindergarten. Hopefully, the family will luck out, or else maybe the school system can recommend people and programs to them. Emily

Deb--why don't you contact my mom, Nancy Cale, with Unlocking Autism. Call their hotline and she will be able to connect you and the family with representatives in the area who can help you find local resources The number is on the homepage of: www.unlockingautism.org
