Dana's Bio

Hello,
I am a stay at home mom to 4 wonderful children. i would not trade the time i get to spend with them for anything. The kids are growing up so fast it is unreal. My oldest is in second grade this year, my little me...lol..(she looks just like me) is in kindergarten, and then my baby girl was 4 in November, and my baby boy was 3 in December...He is the reason for joining this site.He is in the process of being evaluated for Autism. So far all they will tell me is that he has developmental delays, Gross motor delays, mixed receptive/expressive language disorder, sensory issues, low muscle tone...and then they say.."Early signs of Aspergers" or "Possible PDD-NOS" , we take him back again this month..i am hoping to hear something other than bring him back in 3 months..:) and his regular ped, said he thinks hi is on the higher end of the spectrum. and his speech therapist said she thinks he might have apraxia...so there you have it.....my introduction....:)...i am hoping to make some friends who understand without a word....:)

i am thinking I want to get Silas Checked for Food allergies/intolerances.....what kind of Doctor checks for these things..?

it seems like his insides are soooo messed up even when he is not sick, he has the poop of a infant on a good day..lol..and apple juice is a no no on even when he is not sick, he has a blowout every time, bananas do the same thing, and he hates fruit, i have tried everything i can think of to get him to eat a little fruit. orange juice gives his a BAD diaper rash and not on his but either, the rash is all over his penis. He was sick this last wee so i though he had a intestinal bug.....but he STILL has it today. a week later.....???, Tristen thought maybe it is so runny and loose because he eats pureed foods....but i disagree, he does eat cereal and pretzels and..and crackers...dry and crunchy thins to, and he LOVES Chinese, we went out to eat Chinese on Saturday and he ate sooooo good there, but then when i put him in the truck his tummy felt sooooooo hard, i dont know if it was form eating so good or what, but then he pooped a MASSIVE poop, it was just as runny as all the rest, and he has ate "regular" food....and i dont mean to be gross but it looked like there were the skins of grapes in it, and he did not eat any grapes at chinese, i cant for the life of me figure out what it is.....he ate chicken and rice and sweet potatoes and mushrooms. and some choc. pudding..

so i was just wondering where we should take him to be tested for sensitivities, he does have a gastro doc, but we are not happy with him, and are looking for a new one.

o and he has lost 2 pounds over this week of having the non stop runs, we took him to the er and we were told it was a virus, this was wed.they weighed him and he is down to 33 with shoes and clothes on..:( we worked soo hard to see 35 pounds..:(

we have a the kind where you do not need a referral.but we were taking him to a holistic doc last year who tested for yeast and found a moderate overgrowth. Tristen said maybe it is back again...? but he retired since then and i have no idea who we should call up now..lol, maybe we could go see another doc in the same office as the holistic doc.....we got laughed at to, because he said he wouldl outgrow it...well he hasnt....those were my thought as well, possible cleiac...he was tested for it last year. but the results were normal..but maybe things have changed...? thank you all for this great advise!!!!!!!!! your guys are GREAT!!! i have allot or searching to do now...LOLOL..i think i will start with the DAN doc in the area.....hopefull i can find a good one, we did try the GF/CF diet, but it was sooooo hard because he is sooooo picky to begin with and then there was the cost..:(......i wishthe foods did nto cost as much so now we are trying to buy fresh as possible nothing prefabbed or processed.

You really need to check out the Natural healing of the GUT group.

Also, in the meantime, you might want to try some digestive enzymes...Houston's brand has worked well for my son....Call them and ask for advice on which ones would be best. They are very helpful.

I agree...find a very reputable DAN doc. With your location in PA, you should have access to some of the best ones in NJ, NY and DC.... I don't think it is worth your time to visit someone not familiar with autism/gut connection....

Poor guy. I agree with you purees do not cause this. My son eats a great deal of purees and he suffers from constipation. I agree that a DAN! is the way to go as they know about the gut issues with our children and which tests need to be done. Good luck!

I would take him to an allergist. Also, I agree with noaholiviaian, the symptoms you're describing are very much like celiac disease, so try taking him off of gluten and casein. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, oats, rye, spelt, and modified food starch. Casein is the protein in milk. It takes about 3-6 weeks for a difference to really be seen, at that point, do a cost/benefit analysis to see if you want to continue. Good luck!

I am sorry! Personally, I would start with the basic removal of gluten and casein to see if you can make some quick improvements. Get ready for a potential fight on the food changes, though! This diet (tacanow.org) is something you can do while you seek out a doctor for the intestinal issues. I think his situation is beyond what your basic GI doc can handle. I agree with contacting Thoughtful House and looking on the ARI website for DAN! doctors in your state or surrounding states (www.autism.com). The DAN! doctors can help you with the food allergy testing. Your pediatrician could order the IgE food allergy testing or refer you to a local pediatric allergist; that is something they might be willing to do for you and get it done relatively quick. Unfortunately, many of our kids don't show up with those classic allergies but still have food sensitivities which can be found with IgG food panels. Not many mainstream docs understand or even believe in IgG allergies or intolerances. Apple juice did the same thing to my son when he was 2 years old. I actually took out all fruit and fruit juices for a month and it helped. His issues were not as severe as you describe, though. Good luck to you. Check out companies like Alletess (www.foodallergy.com) for information, too.

That sounds almost exactly like Jameson and his stools. It is constant! He is a good eater--eats almost anything I give him. Fruit, vegetables meat, pasta etc. I am on the other end of the specturm trying to figure out if it is something specific in his diet that he eats that I should cut out. We also went to a GI doc and were not pleased at all! The moment I mentioned Jamesons ppd-nos diagnosis, the doc completely tuned me out and said his stools and pain were normal for a toddler.....yeah right!!! I had even brought a digital photo with undigested food (including not only veggies but meat too) and it was diarrhea. The doctor diagnosed him with diarrhea. Hmm, isn't diarrhea a symptom, not a diagnosis??? We have also been trying to find a doc to look at him and I think Dr. Krigsman is who we would like him to see. Here is his page on Thoughtful House's website. http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org/bio_akrigsman.htm Good luck and feel free to contact me if you want to talk any more about this :) Karah

What kind of insurance do you have? PPO or HMO? For a GI doc I would call Dr. Krigsman but you have to bill insurance yourself so it would have to be a PPO. Other than Dr. Krigsman I would go to a DAN doctor. We go to Rhinebeck Health Center (DR. Compain and Br. Bock)
