Dana's Bio

Hello,
I am a stay at home mom to 4 wonderful children. i would not trade the time i get to spend with them for anything. The kids are growing up so fast it is unreal. My oldest is in second grade this year, my little me...lol..(she looks just like me) is in kindergarten, and then my baby girl was 4 in November, and my baby boy was 3 in December...He is the reason for joining this site.He is in the process of being evaluated for Autism. So far all they will tell me is that he has developmental delays, Gross motor delays, mixed receptive/expressive language disorder, sensory issues, low muscle tone...and then they say.."Early signs of Aspergers" or "Possible PDD-NOS" , we take him back again this month..i am hoping to hear something other than bring him back in 3 months..:) and his regular ped, said he thinks hi is on the higher end of the spectrum. and his speech therapist said she thinks he might have apraxia...so there you have it.....my introduction....:)...i am hoping to make some friends who understand without a word....:)

They want him back June 20 to have a over 2 hour long eval….with 3 different docs all at the same time..he said there is def. something going on….so at least they did not tell me come back in three months..LOL…and he asked if he could keep the video I made..he said it was a really good idea and VERY helpful..:)….and he also Said silas has a heart murmur…he asked me if his other docs ever mentioned it…I said no, so I have to call his ped. Tomorrow…he said it could be nothing…but it could be something to….he said some heart murmurs can come and go…but he ahs NEVER had one before so I dont know why he heard one today?.....

Doctor also wants us to go to Hershey

This is a very long process...be patient. From your description is sounds very similar to what we went through with our boy. The "Out-of-Sync" child was the 1st book I read. It was a great read, easy to understand...however, I didn't realize until several years later that his dx. would eventually be PDDNOS--Autism. All these sensory integration disorders/labels they've given you are simply "labels" to help identify symptoms/issues he struggles with. All autistic kids have low muscle tone, poor fine & gross motor skills, receptive/express language delays . . . etc. You are on the right track. The sooner you get a dx. the better. My advice is to get the doc to give him the "autism" dx. outright. You will have greater access to government assistance in both the public schools & other areas of his life, both now & in the future. Because of the increased awareness in autism over the past 10 years, there is much more open-mindness from docs actually willing to seriously listen to us moms. We know our kids! Best of luck.

The class of drugs Inderal is in (beta blocker) is commonly used for stage fright other anxiety producing situations;it is an off label use. It decreases the heart rate. I have dispensed it more frequently since 911 for people anxiuos about flying.

Good luck with the upcoming tests...I know that this is all so exhausting. Does Silas have any anxiety? I'm just wondering because I was reading about a new medication that my son was put on for his anxiety (Inderol) and the main reason it is used is for people with a heart murmer--seems as if some murmers can cause anxiety.....
