I'm a father of a wonderful yet intense asperger son, born in 2006, and wonderful yet soft angel daughter, born in 2008. I think since day 1 we discovered the world of an autistic suffering from acute sensory issues. We thought first ha was ADHD. We moved then on to health issues (digestion, skin, cold) until we discovered he has food intolerance. His behaviors got really wors when we came to the US (from Switzerland). it could be due to the stress and/or food change. we aren't sure. We thought he had celiac disease (autoimmune dis due to gluten intolerance). We consulted a specialist who suggested possible autism issue due to the array of symptoms (attention span, echolalia, some obssessions, eye contact, sensory issues, and mindlbindness). We started looking around and have discovered that our son has asperger's syndrome (may 2009). We haven't gone to a pediatrican for an assessment yet due to the cost of medical expenses. We aren't sure it is necessary, unless of course it helps later having special care covered, which seem to be the case. So we might go ahead and do the whole assessment. though we are sure of the diagnostic. I'm looking now for help and resources for us to get by and see how we can help our son and ourselves helping our son. Otherwise, I'm a visiting researcher/student (psychology dept) at Stanford until the end of 2009. I'm not specialized in autism, nor in pathological issues, but have a fair understanding of therapeutic methods and very good understanding of human behavior in social setting. My wife is an artist and teacher.
