Ginny's Bio

Hi, My name is Ginny and I have the most incredible child named Seth.  Seth is 16 years old and has Autism.  He is non-verbal.  At 13 he began to type and with a light touch of his forearm he can tell you anything you want to know about him and life with Autism.  He now can write with a pen with the same light touch of his arm.  Before the age of 13, I did not know him at all.  I know that each new day brings the hope of verbal language because never did I imagine that after 13 years I would finally hold a conversation with my child.  Have hope, anything is possible!!

A Wonderful Trip

I just feel the need to tell everyone about our wonderful trip to Gatlinburg Tennessee. Seth wanted to walk down the streets of Gatlinburg and go in the stores and Ripleys Believe it or Not. This is an amazing accomplishment because before he had a way to communicate, it would have been impossible. Seth and I have had to sit in the car so my husband and daughter could go in the stores. I tell you this because you need to know that even though it seems hopeless now, anything can change. We also went to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville N. Carolina, which is a castle built around 1893. Seth was perfect!!!! He went on the tour, was quiet, no meltdowns or noises. He paid attention to the rooms that we looked in. It was wonderful and impressive. We are planning a trip to Washington D.C. next year and I feel sure that he will be fine. I never would have taken the chance four years ago. I know that Seth seems so typical to everyone when he writes and maybe you think that he doesn't struggle like other kids with Autism but I assure you, it has been a long road to where he is now and we are still longing for the day of recovery. Just felt that I needed to tell you this, my friends of Foggyrock.

Wonderful! Wynn so badly wants to participate more fully in life--with trips and experiences like that. Thank you for sharing and giving us the hope that things can improve with time. I wonder what Seth thought was the best part of the trip?

GREAT! I so understand. Even though John has very limited communication, I know he wishes to learn, to go places and see things. It's wonderful that Seth is getting to do this and learning so much. Keep planing more trips, that's wonderful!!
