Hi,
My name is Marisa and I am a mom to a wonderful 4 yr old boy.
My son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS and has some sensory issues. He always wants MORE MORE MORE and Faster, Louder, Stronger.....He can sit for hours watching a fan spin or watching the sounds, lights and crowds in Time Square.
I have had many sleepless nights trying to gather up as much information as possible to help him out!!
I would love to hear what is working for your child and yes, I do understand every child is different.
Also, please be kind.
We are all here for the same reasons I think and that is to network, chat, and support each one of our kids!!
God Bless!!

Today was cold, raining and I don't think it made it past 46 degrees here in Massachusetts. We braved the weather and headed out to Windrush Farm Therapeutic Equition, Inc for their spring open house. I have been searching for different types of therapies for Dylan and after today, we are hooked! Dylan does not speak much on a normal basis but we have noticed that after the bumpy bus ride, jumping on the bed, or jumping on a trampoline at OT, his speech begins to flow with such great force. Most of the time we can't understand what he is saying but to us, it is progress. Today Dylan got on a horse for the first time in his life. He was fitted for his helmet and climbed onto a beautiful and peaceful horse. They took him around cones and barrels, passed the huge mirror where he was checking himself out, and over these bumpy planks. They stopped at one point so he could grab a ring and place it around the handle of the saddle. He was smiling from ear to ear and by far he was the happiest I have ever seen him!! When the ride was coming to an end, I noticed he was talking!! He said, "horse soft", "awww so nice" and "MORE, AGAIN, MORE, AGAIN HORSE". I had to keep getting tickets so he could wait his turn and take the RIDE OF HIS LIFE once more. I watched him from the sidelines and I began to cry. They were the happiest tears I have cried in a very long time. Just to see his balance on this massive horse which he has trouble with normally, was amazing. The staff at Windrush Farm are truly remarkable. Dylan has a hard time sometimes with strangers but the staff were supportive, caring, compassionate and highly trained. Not for one minute did I feel like he was not being taken care of while riding. You can feel something special there like some sort of magic. I truly believe magic does happen and this is a place where dreams come true for disabled children and adults. I have requested information about their program and I am keeping my fingers crossed that Dylan can get in. I was told it was expensive but every parent I spoke to today said it is worth every penny. They are a true family there and one we hope to become a part of in the future. We all had the best time and I feel truly blessed to have been a part of something so fantastic even if it was just for a few hours. If your interested in checking out their web site it is www.windrushfarm.org I hope everyone has a little magic happen this weekend! Thanks for always sharing in the good, the bad and the ugly here online. I am proud to be part of this family!

That's fantastic, I think we'll be having a go at horse riding in the future. Hope that Dylan get's on the program, it sounds like it would be wonderful for him!

Oh - we went to that last year and had SUCH A BLAST! I agree they are so good with the kids. I told them Carson's signs "yes" "No" "stop" (he wasn't speaking as much as he is now), they set up the stirrups so his feet could touch and he LOOOOOVED it. So did my daughter and she's very anxious about things. I'm glad you loved it too. I agree - make it part of the IEP.

Good job Dylan! Daniel has been taking hippotherapy lessons now for about 3 years! He is the happiest on his horse "Red". He even does horse shows! It is part of Daniel's IEP and the school pays for it. We live in Mass too!

When we took Julian riding at the Rainbow Ranch here in Madera...he loved it...Julian chose the biggest horse there was...we rode for 2 semesters and then they moved 45 minutes away...we couldn't continue with this therapy...I always wondered if we had would he have been able to produce words. If you can do this type on therapy grab the opportunity...and watch him soar...or rather...watch him ride!
