PeterPan's Bio

Hello FoggyRockers!  I am the father of a son on the autism Spectrum.  I chose the screen name Peter Pan because that was my son's first favorite ride when we took him to Disneyworld the first time.  He has developed other favorites now, but seeing his reaction the first time on this ride was priceless.
My son was born in 2003.  My wife and I raise him in South Carolina.  He attends an Early Childhood Development at a county school (another story there).  he also receives 15 hours of therapy a week through a local organization for children with autism.  He is making wonderful progress and we are so proud of every accomplishment he makes.

*NOTE:  Just for the record let me state any compositions I write are true, but the names have been changed.

Bathroom break .. news flash
by PeterPan on 07.25.08 - public - 95 visits

I am going to break from my string of compositions I am writing about my son's development to announce some cool.
Tonight about 2 1/2 hours after my son goes to sleep, while my wife and I were preparing from sleep... I hear a bump from my son's room over the baby monitor. A second later our door opens and in staggers from my son. he is holding his ... well you can guess. We offer to help him to the bathroom, but he refuses and makes it to our bathroom and shuts the door. He has a small meltdown when he turns on the vent fan instead of the light. I slip my hand in the door and turn on the light and the fan off. He proceeds to pee and comes out the bathroom and climbs in our bed. My wife offers to carry him back to his room and he agrees. On their way out he tells her to stop and looks over her shoulder and says in his soft voice "Night Daddy".
Talk about a feeling it is well after midnight and I am just wired! On so many levels:
- He woke up to go pee on his own instead of wetting himself and the bed
- He wanted to o it himself no help
- He wanted to make sure he told me, daddy. good night.

Just had to share... I will post another composition tomorrow and am looking forward to it.
