Haley and I have been basically on our own (with my parents for support) since I was 3 months pregnant. After having her and the six month post partum growth period I tried to go back to work. I had a degree in nursing, took my boards and passed easily, and got offered two jobs in the matter of a couple weeks. I took the choice one: staff nurse for a large medical group practice. I was there one month before the pain set in. After fighting on for another month with horrid back pain and multiple tests, I had to stop, 2 years ago Halloween. Since then we have bee struggling to make ends meet, keep up with medical needs for us both and stay sane. Most days it is a steep uphill battle for us. I have had state aid for this time, which barely covers anything, definitely not the day to day costs I have incurred trying to keep up with my daughter's needs and insatiable learning curve. Months ago I started thinking about how to get out from credit card debt and state aid but still be there for Haley's therapies, attention needs, and my own medical needs. (I have several past diagnosis' but have just recently discovered that I do in fact have nerve damage effecting all of my body for unknown causes, in addition to hearing loss, borderline diabetes setting in, pain and numbness leading to weakness in all arms and legs, and debilitating migraines.) My solution was to work a homne business on my own hours and with flexible needs to work with our health. I signed on with Arbonne International (amazing company and you can check them out at my site: arbonne4midcoastme.myarbonne.com) and picked up Pampered Chef last week as another outlet. ASPIRE through DHHS and the Women, Work and Community group in Portland have approved this as a viable home business for me. Unfortunately the requirements are overwhelming and I feel like I am drowning only 2 weeks in. Because I am a single parent I have to have daycare for my daughter. I am very grateful to have found a friend and fantastic provider for her but feel emmensly guilty in not being around during the day when Haley needs me. My health is suffering too for all the hours in work and all day with her. (daycare starts this week) I guess my mind keeps trying to wrap itself around the balance of Haley needs me, and I need to support my family and meet the financial needs her Autism has brought with it. How does one manage this? 
I have help fromt he state. They replaced my glasses she broke recently as they are needed for work, they gave me an allowance for clothing to look professional (haven't bought clothes for myself but once since I was pregnant), are helping with the cost of daycare, helping with gas based on milage, helped with car insurance and some repairs, and may help with some supplies start up costs. With all this, it still does not cover the cost going back top work is taking on us. Haley already feels neglected and has stepped up her mommy obsession. But at the same time she has also kicked her development into high gear with mimicking language and trying to sing along with a video tonight! I am scared to trigger a remission with starting daycare! Haley is nearly my whole world and I guess I know I am doing what is needed to survive by starting a business, but at the same time... what is the cost!?
