Zurama's Bio

I am the mother of five children, the youngest Michael or Mickie as we like to call him, was diagnosed with Autism at 22 months old. After years of early intervention therapy, which didn't work. I learned through trial and error that he had underlying biomedical problems that culminated in Autism like symptoms, including, chronic digestive problems since the age of one, when he received the MMR vaccine.
With biomedical interventions, gfcf  and SCD diets, Mickie's body is starting to heal. Some of the most severe symptoms, head banging, night waking, self injurious behaviors are almost gone.
He lost all speech by the age of three. He is now 10 years old and has just started to say mama, for the first time in almost 8 years.

~Mickie and the Bus Driver~
by Zurama on 06.09.08 - public - 115 visits

On Friday, when I picked up Mickie from the bus, his bus driver says.....___I have to tell you what Mickie did today.

My first thought was oh God, he pulled her hair, but then she said......
____He has done the nicest thing I have ever seen.
___What did he do? I asked.
___He put his hand on my cheek and gave me that most kind look I have ever seen in my life.

It was so nice to hear that from someone outside our family circle. Remember I posted a few weeks ago that he did the same thing to my mom and he does it to me and his sisters all the time.

His shows of affection to the people that take good care of him are a sign of real progress, not to mention that mainstream thinking is that Autistic people don't make connections with other human beings.

Our kids prove everyday that all preconceived ideas about what they can and can't do are wrong.

Oh yes they so do. My son has always liked riding the bus when he was in school. He had a wonderful driver. One day we went to vist the school for a eval . As we were walking up to the school he saw the bus ans the driver . He got so excited he opened his arms and threw a BIG HUG on the driver. He totally made the drivers day!!!!!! What your son did was so sweet. It's great to read stories like this thanks!!!

My son touches my face like that, too. He is high functioning, but still uses that profound gesture. When he does it, it rarely is accompanied by eye contact. It chokes me up every time! Touch is the most basic of connections.

That is great! I hate that people think they don't connect with others. My son is very attached to me right now. He gives me spontaneous hugs and tries to say "I love you." These kids are proving the mainstream ideas wrong every day. They are really amazing! It's great that his bus driver knows how special that moment was and shared it with you. How sweet! ~Kristin
