Our real blessing in life is our spirited 13 year old son who surprises us each day with all the things he accomplishes and overcomes. We did not pick this journey, but despite the occasional bumps in the road- we have loved every minute of it!

I waited for my little man to make milestones but at age 13 and tearing apart his room like a 3 year old, is exhausting. It is like over night he has become an interior decorator. He never was interested in anything before but now he is moving shelves, removing items from the walls, and the other day I walked upstairs and he had moved the couch to the middle of the family room! Did you all go through this? I allowed him to rearrange his room but he is really into books so they are all over the floor that you can't even get the door opened. HELP!!!

With my son, he has gone through OCD phases where he had to have furniture in certain places and he would check them over and over to make sure they were in just the right position....

This is a new one on me... I can only think that he's doing it to have a little more control over his surroundings. If it's still hard for him to control his own behavior, he might be trying to create a situation that is easier for him to handle. Good luck!

My son did this for a while, teen thing I think..I would go into this room and put it all back like I had it. Then one day I stopped and tried to see the mess from his view..and you know...he had angled his bed so that when he layed down, he could see the tv without even moving a muscle, had the books and toys he likes most in the floor within arms reach, and the lamp he couldn't turn on moved away using that space in a more productive means for him. To me, it looked like big mess, but in his mind, it worked better. I let it go and he stopped moving things after that day. See if your son will help you stack a tower of his books, that way he has control of where and which on which...

My youngest is only 5 but can tear the whole house apart in about 10 mins if left to his own devices. We try and restrict him to a couple of rooms at a time to save us from constantly running around after him. It also helps to distract him with any sensory activities he likes such as water play or trampolining. Is there any way you can use your sons interest in books differently?? Sorry not that helpful, but best of luck anyway.
