frogfoot1969's Bio

Hi my name is Sonya. I have a wonderful husband who works his butt off so I can stay home with the kids Bryan 15, nt and Seoc 4, special needs. Seoc (pronounced Shock, it is Gaelic for Jack, it means God is Gracious) has numerous diagnosis but Autism is the one we struggle with daily. He has the biggest smile and best laugh I have ever heard.  He is high functioning and has hyperlexia. He keeps life very interesting to say the least.

Another great day

I asked Seoc this morning if he wanted to go outside and play. He said "Outside, play, car" I said where do you want to go in the car? "He said Park" This is the first where question he has answered. So we went to the park, where he just runs around. It was hot so I asked him if he wanted to go get icecream, of course he does. I took him to McDonald's for the very first time thinking I may be able to get him to play on the play structure. This is something that in the recent past would not happen, he refused to get inside or on anything let alone go down the slide. Today he went as long as I went with him, which is a big start. Thankfully it was not busy or he would not have gone for it. There was a little girl there about his age, he was interested in what she was doing and enjoyed watching her go down the slide. I kept promting him to play with her (to no avail but hay acknowledging her and what she was doing is a big start) She tried really hard to play with him but he didn't bite. After a while my knees where killing me from climbing in that thing and I took a break. He climbed up in it alone but would not come down the slide. I keep promting him telling him he could do it, he was a big boy and the little girl tried too, LOL, she was sooo cute. After a long time of watching her do it he finally did All by himself. This is huge, I off course was jumping for joy and the little girl was also pleased that he finally did it. He has really come a long way!

Excellent! Those days were not too far behind us! It seems like yesterday they were too afraid of play structures.l

I hate the mcdonald's play structures that go up really high - fear of heights...ugh. I'm glad you are seeing wonderful progress - keep up the good work.

What a great day! My son screamed before we even got inside the McDonalds! I take his sisters there to play when it isn't busy and thought he would love it-tunnels and slides. But he freaked just outside the door to go in.(He had never been there before.) and then I had to hold him the entire time his sisters played. He calmed down but wouldn't let me put him down. I have no idea what that was all about. Your son seems to be making great progress--I am really happy for you!

That is so awesome! It brings back memories of taking my son to McDonald's playground for motor play and socialization. Thank goodness they allow parents on the equipment or I would have never been able to get him to do a thing. The worst was when I was big and pregnant and trying to crawl with him through the tunnels (and I'm so claustrophobic!)...
