Autism ended my career as a dental assistant. I had planned on returning to work after having my baby but he was premature and had issues from the beginning. Now that he is older I still can't return to work due to his many doctor and therapy visits. Not to mention there are no childcare facilities that can care for his needs. It has been very difficult financially as well as mentally. I think "Maybe when he starts school I can go back to work" but I fear that too will be impossible due to problems at school and not many dentist want a part time assistant.
