mweihing's Bio

Hi all!  My name is Morgan Weihing.  I have a wonderful husband, Robbie, and 2 beautiful children, McCullough and Siddah. McCullough is my oldest child...he's 10 years old, and Siddah is my baby...she's 2.  McCullough was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at the age of 3, and it's been a long, difficult, yet wonderful journey through his treatment and recovery (he's just about there).

McCullough was extremely language delayed early on.  He didn't have as many overtly "autistic" behaviors like hand flapping or stemming, but he LOVED Thomas the Train and liked to play with the wheels.  He had poor eye contact for a while and rarely responded to his name.

After his diagnosis, we got him into speech-language therapy and early intervention.  At the time I was just a college student, and I kept changing my mind about what career path I wanted to take.  McCullough's speech therapist at that time was SO kind and wonderful with him, and I thought...her job must be so rewarding.  So I decided to become a speech-language pathologist.

Now, many years later, I am STILL in school.  I'm working on my Ph.D in communication sciences and disorders and will hopefully graduate within the year.  Because of McCullough, I would like to work with children with autism upon graduating.  My research interests are related to early identification of autism, as well as, the different onset patterns seen in autism and their affect on developmental outcomes.  I am interested in the possibility of different etiologies for autism and how those differences might relate to treatment.

I am actively recruiting participants for my research.....I NEED to graduate!  :0)  But....I also want to make a difference with my work.  That's all for now, I'll add more later.
