I am the 77-year-old grandmother of Jack, a 13-year-old with autism and apraxia. We live on the coast of Maine. He goes to a wonderful public Middle School where he is learning some life skills in special programs, but is still greeted by many main-stream students. Once a week I drive the 25 miles to his town and pick him up at noon at school. Usually we go to Windham for therapeutic riding. Then I try to find some nearby hiking trail or beach. I dread stormy weather as I have not been able to find any appropriate indoor activities that can engage Jack like the natural world does.
