I am the 77-year-old grandmother of Jack, a 12-year-old with autism and apraxia. We live on the coast of Maine. Once a week I drive the 25 miles to his town and pick him up at noon at school. Usually we go to Windham for therapeutic riding. Then I try to find some nearby hiking trail or beach. In the winter, we walked on a golf course, but this spring the Golf Ranger came in his cart, and told us we had to leave until the season closed in the fall. Jack really enjoyed the ride out in the careening cart. I dread stormy weather as I have not been able to find any appropriate indoor activities that can engage Jack like the natural world does.
