I'm a mumblethirtysomethingmumble mom of three. Our oldest girl, The Munchkin, 10, is gifted and homeschooled. Then we have the twins, age 2, Birdie and The Boy. The Boy has been all but officially diagnosed as autistic, and definitely has substantial sensory issues and is currently nonverbal. Birdie has some minor sensory issues, and never shuts up, although her speech development is just below standard deviation for her age.
The Boy has been "different" from day one, and the twins are not now and never have been vaccinated, which apparently makes us an oddity in this autism journey (early onset?!?! In this day and age?!?! What kind of freaks are we!?!?!). We are just beginning interventions, which include speech therapy (if we can ever get a therapist), Occupational Therapy with Sensory Integration, and an in-home special educator. We are using really a DIY eclectic approach, although the inclusion of some RDI intervention work does appeal strongly to us, and ABA definitely does not.

The twins were really good today. They played, they laughed, all was well in the baby universe.
Until Mommy made the silly mistake of trying to get them down for a nap...
Oh, that silly Mommy! Doesn't she know we want to jump and play and run and spin in circles and squeak like a parakeet?
Now Daddy, we'll sleep for Daddy. After all, when you leave to bring Munchkin to piano lessons, after 5pm, it'll be great to curl up in his arms and take a nap. Oh yes, a nap. A long nap.
We'll wake up at 8pm, and no, turning off the lights and television and trying to fool us into thinking it's really nighttime won't work. We are babies. We know better. And don't let The Boy fool you, Mommy. He's really the ringleader.
We'll let you know when we're ready for warm milk, snuggles, and sleep. And you should be ready, Mommy, because it won't be until, oh, at least 1am. In the meantime, watch out. We're gonna jump on the bed at the same time and fall to our knees at an angle to see how far across the room we can bounce. Sensory issues. Deep pressure. I mean, that's what the therapists told us to do, right? Yeah... flying... Here comes The Boy!!
FORE!!!
