slhh130's Bio

Hi all! I am a mother to a 5 year old Caleb with autism and a 3 year old Kelsey with Asperger's. He is in kindergarten and she is in pre-school. I also have many characteristics in common with the kids which makes dealing twice as hard for me-sensitive hearing, sensory, ADD, and a little auditory processing.  I am married to Dennis and we keep our hands full keeping up with the two of them.

Other Autism Factors?
by slhh130 on 05.20.08 - public - 99 visits

Let's share the other factors that may have contributed to our kid's autism.
Caleb's:
1. vit b6 shot 1st trimester
2. exposure to fungicide, insecticide, glyphosate (round up), and other chemicals in lab wjile preggo
3.bug sprayed at house shortly after birth
4. Hep B shot at birth
5. GENETICS!!!
6. Vacuum and forceps birth
7. Fluid filled bubble on head from 3-6 months old- not hematoma.
8. alcohol before found out preggo-
doctor said fine
9. jaundice
10. I have heard good and bad on pitocin.
He was different at 7 weeks and by 9 months I could tell.

Kelsey:
1. bug sprays
2. SHOTS! 15 months. She changed within a month.
3. vacuum birth
4. pitocin as well
5. little biologicals and chemicals at work (had desk job by then)

I once heard a mom say that all of us had been exposed to a broken thermometer and one time or another in our lives. She went around taking a poll. (completely unofficial-just mommy talk)

I have arthritis. My mom has thyroid probs as well as her family is diabetic. We all have a bunch of fillings too. I need to get rid of them while I have good dental.

I think my kids got the best of both worlds - my mom had thyroid issues, rheumatoid arthitis, asthma, severe stomach issue (probably celiac). Some of the genetic work points to ASD kids having this stuff on their mom's side of the family. Then there is the diet I grew up with, the Rhogam, the flu shots, the fillings, the air the water. Plus my little guy has other genetic issues (all his own) that put his system at risk from day 1.

My cousin is undiagnosed aspie. I am close. It depends who you ask. One says ADD another Aspie. Alot of the traits are how we are all raised-rigid, keeping things the same. Our whole family has some of these traits. That is why I said that. The toxins definitely made it worse.

I was GFCF with my pregnancy, ate organic, used no chemicals, no makeup, no shots, natural labor and delivery, no immunizations, breastfed (GFCF, yeast free), live in rural maine, and still had a child with autism. What contributed to my child's Autism is GENETICS. That doesn't mean there isn't toxins and environment factors causing Autism but please do not say genetics doesn't play a role. I have relatives on the HFA end so I highly disagree.

For my kids I think it was a little of everything. I believe they had a genetic predisposition to being vulnerable to toxins. I see some mild OCD and sensory stuff in my family that seems to be worse with each generation. (Each generation has had to deal with more toxins than the one before) My kids were fine and vaccines seemed to undo them. We lost skills and are fighting to get them back. All the crap in the environment doesn't help either. I believe some kids are absolutely fine with no genetics involved and still develop autism after vaccine exposure. I just think mine in particular were very vulnerable to the toxins in the vaccines. Kristin

I didn't intend this to be a genetics vs vaccines debate. I was just wondering about the other stuff.

I too know that it is impossible for science to state an autism epidemic...this would mean they would have to agree that we call came from Adam and Eve...no way they will do this...a genetic epidemic simply put means we are all related to each other...But all the toxicins we put into our children and even ourselves has the potential to place us all in a very similar place...autism is at epidemic stagges, but no way genetic...just my little two cents worth...Diana

There is no such thing as a genetic epidemic so I don't think genetics plays a roll in Autism. It is vaccines and toxins in the environment, some of those environmental toxins are used in the immunizations such as anti-freeze and mercury and aluminum just to name a few. Just my opinion.
