A word that wreaks the soul
I wanted you to healed by now

In a seven year old and yet

There was another child who long ago did come
Who also did not ask for the sentence that he bore. But, his mother knew what his life held in store. 
His mother loved him also accepting that his feat was not what she would wish, and if she could have changed the course of his direction, she would, but God mean’t him to save the world. What does he mean for you? I wonder and I grieve and yet I know in time I’ll see that you too will find a settling of your mind. . a settling of your mind.

As I accept His plan for you I continue still to work, to never give up and never give in. for you my son, to begin…………….

It was'nt as cold yesterday as we had anticapted; so the matching white, fleece hood jackets my mom bought us came off really fast. We parked at a friend's house, choosing to walk a long way instead of paying 5.00's to park. Because of the morning rain it was'nt too crowded at first. We were early so we walked around looking at booths for a while. Then exited into a restaurant to eat before working the booth. Lots of kids wanted to pick up duckies, so we were busy. Teachers who wanted to help autisitc kids put donations in a jar, one parent who said her son had passed left money and quickly vanished. I longed to get to talk to her; but I don't believe she was able to. One father with a severely autistic son put 5.00's in the donation jar and pulled his boy to the side. I said; "He can pick up a duck too. I hated the idea of an autistic boy not geting to play at the autistic booth; something wrong there!! So what his son tried to get in the pool with the ducks or push them to the side instead of picking one up? His father quickly got him one and vanished out of sight I felt for them. One autistic girl named Audrey won a big prize and she shouted; "It's a miracle!!!" We all cheered and clapped for her. I was praying she'd win as she picked up her duck and she did. That was my favorite part of the day. My knees were killing me when the 2 and a half hours were over. Boy, you don't realize how old  you're getting until you try to sit down after standing for a long time. What is happening to my body? Anyway, wish I could do more for autism than just stand at duckies. Wish with just a wish, just a prayer I could heal them all. Wish my son and your son and your daugther did'nt have this plight we speak of. Wish and dream of another day at a triumphant booth celebrating the cure of autism for all. Oh, how I wish...............

I'm going this morning to our local BBQ festival and working the autism booth. Funny, it's something I would have loved doing years ago, but never would I have imagined I'd be doing it as an autistic parent. Feel so of numb as I dress in white with a puzzle piece on my shirt. I'm a real  people person; so what I'm about to go do is a joyful thing to me due to the sadness we all share in common, odd, uh? People come and pick up a duck out of the water for a 1.00 and win a prize, small or large depending on the number on the duckie. It's cold putting your hands in over and over to get those little duckies. This year I go at 12:30,  one year I went at 7:00 a.m.  That day was cold, I tell ya. We also selll cookbooks, keychains and t-shirts. You get to see other autstic parents and there is a commorodity about it; wish ya were going to be there. I'd just hug your necks so tight. You'd be the ones walking by with the glow coming off your heads from the crowns you'll be wearing in heaven. I love you all so and think of you often in my thoughts and my prayers. I think of your children when I look in my son's face and when I pray for him, prayers for your kids follow right behind. Gotta go work now, always for autism, always working......Just like you

Today was good, except my watch got hung on the car door and my hand got stuck in the door as it close. My wrist looks like my husband abused me, and I really jammed a fingers getting it stuck in a rail on the stairs walking down. I tend to be a slight bit accident proned, but I made it through Wal-mart with three boys, and through three haircuts at Great  Clips, and through homeschooling and through going to Curves. The chit chattiness nauseates me. It's so fake. 30 minutes is about all I can take. I got an early Christmas present from my mom since my purse broke right in front of her. All in all it's been a good day. Tommorrow is hump day. My little, big girl comes home from college for four days on Friday. So weird seeing her just for a spell, but it's better than nothing. I'm working the booth at our local BBQ festival for autism this year. People come by and pick up duckies for a 1.00 and the proceeds go to the Autism Society where I live. Last year they gave each child a 15.00's certificate for McDonald's. Us parents loved that one. 
tomorrow I'll go to Curves again and get nauseated and hopefully skinnier at the same time. Good thing I've got you guys for realness. Laurie

I wake up and my first thought was that today was going to be the same. My second thought was to make it good, to try my best, my third thought was to get on foggy rock and tell about my first thought. Aren't I cute? You're my coffee pals as I drink my morning cup. Only the best drink coffee with me. And, even though you're not in my messy house, you're deep in my heart and in my thoughts and prayers always. Today I'm talking to a play therapist about my son, today I'm homeschooling, today I'm going to Curves again. Today I may go to Wal-marts. Just an ordinary day. I had thought by now I'd be an extraordinary person, boy do I feel ordinary. But, I'm surrounded in my heart by all of you and to me you are extraordinary, the cream of the crop so to speak. You are the "Mother Warriors" of Jenny McCarthney's book and I am honored to be within your ranks; although none of us would choose it. As I watched my youngest at his brother's soccer game twirl around on the field and play pick-a-boo under a blanket on grass that set off his asthma, (worrying his mom) Anyway, as I watched and others did also I thought of how different they saw us as. As my son kept going out on field and wouldn't stay off saying "He finds his brothers, he find his brothers." I took joy in his language as others smiled a  pitiful smile that indicated self pity. I have so many thoughts now of getting him better, of living day to day of what tomorrow will be like, thoughts I give and talk to God about on a daily basis, rarely turning them all over. May your days be wonderful and filled with joy, may your children's minds be open to instruction and healing, may God grant you the sweetest peace you've ever known. I ache for you and  your children as I do for my own. To me you are my sisters in this fight, my comrades. Take care or better yet give your cares away today for greater peace.

I cut the bushes at my house today. We lived in an old house off a main road with lots of traffic. The old lady who lived here for years loved bushes; thus we inherited them. Year after year I fight the honeysuckle vines which grow up through my bushes threatening to chock out the very life of the bush. Year after year I fight my son's autism. The honeysuckle vines twist around the very branches of the bush. I noticed today how tightly they are wound to the branch itself. And, the longer I wait to cut my bushes the higher they wind. They are hard to loosen and it's very hard to find their origin. Some bushes have grown very tall, out of my reach. I have to go beyond myself to cut them. I drove a long way to that therapy and reached a long way to cut that bush. I barely hear the birds now. I break from exhaustion laying in the yard, closing my eyes and listening. I hear the cars passing, the kids shouting in the back yard. The cars cease for a moment and once again I hear the birds. The birds are a ever present reminder of my creator's presence. But, they're hard to hear because of the traffic, or the kids or my stress or my thoughts. I need to hear the birds as I cut my bushes. I walk away from the bush I've spent so much time on and as I turn much to my surprise 5 birds fly out from the chaos of the broken honeysuckle vines. Did you hear the birds today?

When I was a new parent of one precious child I used to go to wal-mart and see a child screaming, tossing about on the floor, pitching a total fit. I used to think poorly of that other parent, thinking they needed to handle their child so others didn’t have to be subjected to the screams. When I was blessed by obtaining a boy in addition to my girl I realized that testosterone is a lot more complicated and that I had been judgmental. Now with four in tow when I see a child acting up in public many times I feel for the parent and wonder how long that particular child has given them a hard time.

Now with my youngest being diagnosed with autism I’m a lot more aware of the other special need’s children in the store. I spot them everywhere. And, if one tosses about on the floor I think to myself; “that child may have autism.” I am way less judgmental now and a lot more caring. We have to guard what we say for what we say can be remembered for years later. I was speaking to another mom with a child on the autism spectrum the other day. She told me when her child was small people even offered to spank him for her.

We have become such a society which is self seeking, longing for just the right restaurant, the perfect day, the beautiful experience. Possibly a beautiful experience could come out of thinking differently about those around us. as I take my growing seven year old who is not potty trained to the bathroom, looks as sharp as a razor dig into my spine. I ignore and do what I must for my child.  We special need’s parents are everywhere and we need your support, your caring, your understanding. Thanks for listening… “an autistic mom”

Weighed in tonight at weight watchers, got my 5 pound star and yet I'm not excited. I'm depressed, generally angry at my daugther whose gone away to college for not calling me. I feel so hurt. We have always been close, she's calling tonight after a long absence of contact and I'm really too mad to talk to her. I'm not excited about her calling because I'm so mad. I know she wants to just share all her fun exploits with me. I feel she's so selfess. I'm supposed to listen to her adventures and  not even mention how she's hurting me. We got cell phones to keep in touch, she never answers hers and she makes promises to call and continually breaks them. I am so mad at her. She told me we were best friends before she left, if this is how she treats a best friend, no thanks, "I'd rather be just a boring old mom." less hurtful. The good news is my son Colton is responding some to school--preschool lessons that is. He sat for me for 30 minutes today "A record" I made all the activities really short and added music. Colton is by no means caught up but at least he sits a little for me now and at least I feel somewhat like I'm at least teaching him something. My daugther comes home for break in October and right now I don't even care. If she's just going to take me for granted and not keep in touch, I don't know how I'm going to fake it through four years of college. It's the pits being a parent at time, you know? No real thrills about my week. I did send off for a kit to put together things at home to make money. Hope the company doesn't take my money for supplies and run. Wrote an article for our local newspaper. I'll put it on my compositions for you guys to see, ok? Laurie

I met an autistic mom in the grocery store just the other day. She said her son was very  unhappy in school and that his doctor's were just putting him on more and more drugs and he was getting worse and worse. She had never heard of foggy rock, or vitamins, or therapies such as sound therapy. I felt so for her. I told her about Dan doctors. I felt I was meant to run into her. There are still so many parents out there who don't even know of things they can do alternatively with their kids. She said her son was 9 and that she lives a mile from me and wants me to meet her son. We got in a conversation at first about where she could buy extra large pull ups instead of the expensive ones. (By the way they're at CVS near me as sleep pants for 8.00's and at dollar general for 7.50 in a purple pack--their store brand.) We use to pay 13.00's or so a pack with less pull ups in them. Anyway the pull ups started our conversation. It's like it was the special needs moms aisle because as I started to shop again a lovely lady with a son in a wheelchair suffering from a chromosome disorde was right there, the very next person I saw. We talked also. Her son was very disabled. Most of us are fortunate and blessed to have children with very few physical limitations. Today I saw a little baby some kind of birth defect which cause a large portion of hair to grow on one side of her face at Wal-Mart.  I believe most special need's parents are actually shocked when you're just friendly to them and not rude and that is a sad fact. We as special needs parents should seek out each other and show the world how to love like Jesus. Then maybe we too wouldn't feel so alone. We're everywhere.

Lately I've had a new perspective on how to view things with my son. I had gotten so nervous that my left eye was actually twitching, with my every thought being about how to fix him. I was on the porch the other week doing a bible study with a friend. She noticed the tears in my eyes. I told her I was so sorry, but it was painful for me to hear her three year old with such great emerging language when my son struggled so. I said, "I'm so sorry" She said; "That's o.k, you do have to grieve" I told her how hard my son was to teach and she told me and I quote; "It's not your job to educate him, it's your job to continually offer him education" With lowered expectations and my lower stress level we had such a great day today with school. No, he's not fixed, he's not caught up and yet I'm at a place of a lot more peace within accepting more of where we are, picking my battles and not trying to fight them all at once. We're still doing detox medicine and vitamins, but if he's too distracted for the story I don't stress out as much; "Like oh my God, he's not learning anything." My son's expressive language is gaining, even though his receptive is still way low. I'm at peace.

My son told me out of the blue yesterday 
"Mom, be strong" 
Wonder why he said that..
He says just the right thing at times as if he's intuitive
So strange, as if God speaks through him
Our children's words carry more weight
and mean more to us than other people's children; don't they? 
The years are passing, he's losing a baby tooth
He's growing up special 
God; nor I have fixed him yet...
Oh, God he's losing his baby tooth and he's not fixed!!
Will he be fixed in time? 
A friend told me yesterday 
that the miracles God sends may be different ones than the ones we pray for
They may be smaller ones, harder to notice ones
We want the big miracles though;don't we? 
Why can't I just say my son is a miracle whether he gets better or not? 
Why can't I say it's a miracle that I keep going? 
No, I want the red sea to open; don't you? 
But, isn't it a miracle that a my friend's tall beautiful boy is functioning in mainstream school, that his differences are fully excepted by his peers with open hearts? 
Isn't it a miracle that many of us have made it this far? 
I myself remember a baby on a breathing machine who rarely uses an inhaler now. 
Could it be possible that the miracles are within each of us? 
That the miracle is the ability to carry on, the existence of joy when our prayers are not answered the way or in the timing we would choose?

I sit down to write something meaningful and I find there is nothing in me, perhaps I am too burnt out to have anything left in me. Seems my days are full and yet empty at the same time. Contradiction in terms; isn't it? In a place right now or surviving, of doing what I'm suppose to, as many of us are. The therapies are long and the outcomes are questionable. I feel  somewhat void of myself, the self who used to be, the self I taught I was. I know this makes little sense. Don't know what leads my fingers to type, except the need to connect, to share, for someone else to know me. Gone is the daughter with whom I had my long, deep conversations. Gone off to college. Now, I long for those deep conversations again. To be with a person with whom you naturally connect, who truly knows you is rare. I have that in my daughter. I am blessed and missing my blessing. I love my boys, they love me, in a different way, a boy way. A way that means a new video game or the  quickest of testosterone hugs. What do I wish for today? Let's see, what is there to wish for? I wish for all of you to have a great and wonderful day. Please let me know about your day today.. I want to know, what ordinary thing or extraordinary thing happens to you today. Today is Wednesday, hump day, as they say--downhill to the weekend. I admire you all and hold you in my thoughts and prayers daily. Laurie
