My name is Shannon and I have a great husband and 2 amazing kids.
My oldest, Wynn, age 14, has autism and still struggles, after all these years of treatments and therapies, with anxiety and aggression. At his best, he is funny, intuitive and sensitive.
My daughter, 13 year old Haley, is strong and independent, creative and musical. She has been a shining example for Wynn and taught him many of his first words and skills by sheer example.
Steve is my husband of 20 years and partner in this endeavor to be a family in this crazy world of autism. Out of a need we had to have better communication with Wynn's team members, he created a web application called iAbida.com. It has been a project from his heart, and he makes it available to all families, around the globe, for free.
And me? In spite of being a terrible klutz, I have learned the fine art of juggling....motherhood, advocacy, household management and working from home. Foggyrock is my latest project--to fulfill my own need to be associated with other fantastic folks, like you, who I knew were out there.....Thank you for allowing me into your life through this community.

"On a bad day," Wynn's DAN! doc told me, "think Advil." I didn't remember her words until the end of this very bad day. Wynn has actually been a grouch for a few days. He finally was able to tell us that his ears hurt and his head hurt this evening. That is when I remembered the Advil. After I rinsed off the red-dye covering, I gave him some water and the anti-inflammatory medication. Within half an hour, he went from a raging bull to a calm angel who asked to go to bed and actually sang himself to sleep. Tomorrow, I'll take him in to have his ears checked, but for now, I think he is feeling much better......I'm understanding more and more that our children are so often in pain when they are having "behaviors", and many times there is inflammation involved. Try Advil sometime and see if it helps. It could be a clue.....

my son used to have a very high tolerance for pain. Not so much anymore. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for sharing the tip! Robbie usually can tell me if he hurts or doesn't feel well, but he doesn't always do so at the moment he feels it. This is why I'm glad to be here, parents that help and advise one another. Blessings~ Stephanie

Great idea to keep in mind. I can't imagine the frustration of not being able to communicate pain in order to get relief. Thanks for the reminder! Dawn AutismCaregiver

So very true; even my 13yo autistic daughter still has trouble verbalizing pain/discomfort

Awesome job. Christian can tell me when he is hurting but can't tell me where. Sometimes with him, I have to guess. Great detective work!!! Wynn is so lucky to have a mom like you...

You're a great mom to figure things out so many times the way you do. You are to be admired for sure. Smart to rinse off the red dye, great tip!!!

When she can't tell me where it hurts I automatically go for it, then we see her Doctor. It can be a blessing.

So we din't give Jukian to much Moltin, we use Ligaplex II and or grape seed extract to reduce inflammation of any kind.

Smiles, I don't know if there is a children's Advil but there is a children's Motrin which is what we used to use when our son was younger. He is 12 now and can use the adult doses.

Oh, that's great, Shannon! I'm so glad you found something that helps. I'll keep that in mind here, too.

Thanks so much. I think Zane has a huge pain tolerance.I have taken him to the doctor (when he finally tells me his ear hurts, sometimes by putting my hand on his ear) and they tell me his ear drum is about to burst. I feel really guilty, but sometimes I don't have a clue what the problem is. Advil is wonderful, when I know there is a need for it.
